Yesterday much of the same, though
hours were different. I forgot to mention this - that Starbucks is also
where ----- used to go sniff heroin in the bathroom; that was probably before -----
worked there, but I remember ----- complaining that a lot of junkies were using
there and it was a continual problem.
I worked -----'s shift (9pm-closing) Tuesday night, plus an hour of overtime for ----- and -----. I got home and read some more of Stroustrup, trying to stay up until about 7:30, at which time I would go off to the Riverside Clinic in an attempt to FINALLY get tested by showing up right at opening time (this succeeded). While I slept, I dreamt through the abstraction of conflict resolution, attempting to code everything into C++. It would be a shame not to allow my exhausted self to sleep and be rested; it would also be a shame not to go and get tested for HIV this week. Which would I choose? After about an hour's nap, I felt sufficiently rested to get up and go to the clinic. After that, I revisited the aforementioned Starbucks on Broadway and 102 St., had a venti Sumatra with half 'n half, sweet 'n low, chocolate and a pinch of nutmeg, sat in a comfortable chair near the window facing the Broadway sidewalk, and watched the weather transform itself from rainy to sunny to overcast/windy. It was nearly noon when I left; not enough time for sufficient sleep before work at 4pm.
Now ----- has moved in, ----- is off
to Costa Rica. I leave tomorrow morning for Rochester, still not knowing
where I will sleep, but not really caring much about that. It should be
made clear here that this will be my first visit to Rochester since my visit to
the US with ----- in the fall of 1991. That's a pretty long time to have
been away from my home town. I still have to pack. I have a lot of
programming exercises left over from chapter 11 to finish. I have to get
a wedding present for ----- and -----.
