I know I haven't written much here lately, and for that I do apologize. The weekend was spent almost entirely within the microcosm of my little room in Astoria, except for Sunday afternoon when I went to the famed Thai restaurant Sripraphai to meet -----. It felt like weeks since I had gone anywhere or done anything or met anyone on a purely social basis, and it was very refreshing. I am thankful, in a way, that i readily find absorption in my new studies and my many little side activities with the computer, but about once a week I should make an effort to get out into the big, beautiful world... and why on earth should i pay so dearly to live in New York City if I am to spend no time exploring/enjoying it? (of course from time to time I consider the fact that I probably won't want to stay put here if I can go anywhere, anytime - a couch to sleep on would be plenty)
The food at Sripraphai was truly excellent. I had a roast duck in green curry with coconut milk, which had a unique spicy heat I'd never experienced before. It was about as hot as a mid-July day in New York w/o air conditioning, but this heat was somehow pleasant even though it really burned one's lips. It was a heat that blended perfectly with the other spices and flavors, in other words, it was the kind of heat one someday hopes to achieve as an amateur chef in the cuisines of the Indian subcontinent and its immediate neighboring regions.
Our conversation revolved around the
usual epicenters - food, music, our careers (I always learn something about
psychotherapy; he gets his fill on gambling). We hadn't met since a week
before I got involved in the ----- action, so I had plenty to bring him
up-to-date on. I had around that time missed out on a chance to drive out
with ----- to a Sacred Harp meeting in which the Very Reverend ----- was
participating. I got the whole story...,,mus? stop writing now - subway
novement too many stylus errors, besidss I've been up long long long and wfst
sleep 2.5 hys before aext shift begins @ 12 hoon.
